What You Should Know About Interior Painting
Choosing the Perfect Colour Scheme for Your Home
Transforming your home’s interior with a fresh coat of paint starts with choosing the right colour scheme. A well-planned palette creates a cohesive flow while defining distinct areas within your home. The right colours can dramatically enhance the ambiance of any space:
- Lighter Colours: Brighten smaller rooms, improve natural light distribution, and make spaces feel larger.
- Avoid Overcrowding: Too many colours can make a space feel cluttered and disconnected. Stick to complementary tones that harmonize with existing features like countertops, hardwood floors, and cabinetry.
Feature Walls: A Modern Take
Feature walls can make a bold statement when done right. However, overusing them can create a scattered or chaotic look. Here’s what to consider:
- Focus on Key Areas: Prominent walls—such as behind fireplaces or in main living or dining spaces—are ideal for feature walls.
- Avoid Small Spaces: Hallways, bathrooms, and compact rooms aren’t suited for feature walls, as they can overwhelm the space.
- Complementary Colours: Choose hues that match your overall palette to maintain harmony. Avoid overly vibrant colours that clash with the room’s design.
Selecting the Right Paint Products
The quality of your paint matters as much as your colour choice. Based on our years of experience, here’s what we recommend:
Walls:
Opt for low-sheen eggshell paint for a durable, subtle gloss that helps hide imperfections. It works well in every room, including high-moisture areas like bathrooms.Trim, Baseboards, and Doors:
High-end self-leveling trim paint ensures smooth, durable finishes for high-traffic areas. Quality paint adheres better, withstands wear, and dries with a professional-grade look.

10 steps for interior painting
- 1. You receive an Estimate from Pro Service.
- 2. You accept the terms of the estimate and pay a 40% Deposit.
- 3. Colours: Choose from A) Sherwin Williams B) Benjamine Moore C) Make sure that you provide Pro Service with all the colours (Code + Name) and where they are going, at least 2 Days before our arrival. We buy the paint ahead so we need to be sure about quantity for the purchase…
- 4. If you have awkward furniture or items you would rather us not move, please do so prior to our arrival. We can move heavy items, however, china cabinets full of antiques should be emptied before we will move them.
- 5. Do a general tidy and clean-up. We are going to move most items to the middle of the room, so the less clutter to tackle the better! Also, if we are painting your bathroom, please give it a solid clean before asking us to paint behind the toilet…
- 6. Feeling Motivated? You can do some of the furniture moving for us and even take the wall receptacles down. If you are willing to pitch in to a larger extent let us know at the estimating stage and we might be able to save you a few bucks.
- 7. Don’t start repairing holes in drywall if you don’t know what you are doing…We have had clients use the wrong ‘mud’ or apply too much product and it can really do more harm than good!
- 8. Remember that your house is going to be a construction zone for a few days, especially if we are doing the whole house. There will be some degree of dust from sanding, etc. We always maintain a tidy work environment, but some mess will be created along the way.
- 9. If you would like the house to be done section by section just let us know at the estimating stage, so we can accommodate you.
- 10. Ready, Set, GO! If you have gone through the list then you are ready for us.
Our goal is to make the experience seamless and to keep service levels high throughout the process.
