What You Should Know About Interior Painting
Choosing the Perfect Colour Scheme for Your Home
Interior painting is all about creating a cohesive flow while defining distinct areas within your home. The right colour scheme enhances the overall ambiance of any space. Lighter colours can brighten smaller areas and improve light distribution, while using too many colours can make a space feel choppy and cluttered. Opt for complementary colours that harmonize with your existing fixtures and decor, such as countertops, hardwood floors, and kitchen cabinets.
Feature Walls: What You Need to Know
Feature walls have evolved over the years. While they were once very popular, too many feature walls can create a scattered look. Focus on prominent walls, such as those behind a main fireplace or a major dining/living room wall, for your feature walls. Avoid using feature walls in hallways, bathrooms, and smaller spaces. It’s important to match the feature wall with your overall colour palette and avoid overly vibrant hues that clash with the rest of the room.
Selecting the Right Paint Products
With countless paint products available, choosing the right ones for your walls, trim, and ceilings is crucial. Based on our extensive experience, here’s what we recommend:
Walls: We suggest using a low-sheen eggshell paint for walls. It offers durability and helps conceal imperfections while maintaining a subtle gloss. This type of paint is suitable for all rooms, including bathrooms. Ask us about the best products for your specific project.
Trim/Baseboards/Doors: For trim and doors, high-end trim paint is essential. Superior paint has self-leveling properties, adheres better, and dries with a smooth, durable finish. Don’t compromise on quality—your trim and doors experience the most wear and deserve top-notch paint.
Preparation and Maintaining Tidy Workspaces
We prioritize preparation and cleanliness during our painting projects. We always cover floors with paper in areas we roll and maintain a designated work area to keep the job site as clean as possible. While painting can be a bit messy and may render the area out of use for a couple of days, we strive to make the process as efficient and unobtrusive as possible.
At Pro Service Painting, we respect your home and aim to be as unobtrusive as possible. We work within your timeframe and ensure a smooth transition through the painting process. Our commitment to exceptional service is designed to ensure your satisfaction and foster long-term relationships.
We look forward to working with you soon!
10 steps for interior painting
- 1. You receive an Estimate from Pro Service.
- 2. You accept the terms of the estimate and pay a 40% Deposit.
- 3. Colours: Choose from A) Sherwin Williams B) Benjamine Moore C) Make sure that you provide Pro Service with all the colours (Code + Name) and where they are going, at least 2 Days before our arrival. We buy the paint ahead so we need to be sure about quantity for the purchase…
- 4. If you have awkward furniture or items you would rather us not move, please do so prior to our arrival. We can move heavy items, however, china cabinets full of antiques should be emptied before we will move them.
- 5. Do a general tidy and clean-up. We are going to move most items to the middle of the room, so the less clutter to tackle the better! Also, if we are painting your bathroom, please give it a solid clean before asking us to paint behind the toilet…
- 6. Feeling Motivated? You can do some of the furniture moving for us and even take the wall receptacles down. If you are willing to pitch in to a larger extent let us know at the estimating stage and we might be able to save you a few bucks.
- 7. Don’t start repairing holes in drywall if you don’t know what you are doing…We have had clients use the wrong ‘mud’ or apply too much product and it can really do more harm than good!
- 8. Remember that your house is going to be a construction zone for a few days, especially if we are doing the whole house. There will be some degree of dust from sanding, etc. We always maintain a tidy work environment, but some mess will be created along the way.
- 9. If you would like the house to be done section by section just let us know at the estimating stage, so we can accommodate you.
- 10. Ready, Set, GO! If you have gone through the list then you are ready for us.
Our goal is to make the experience seamless and to keep service levels high throughout the process.
